Teaching and learning using the Quality Teaching Framework ensures that students learn in a positive environment that is challenging and meets their needs. Our early literacy program includes the Jolly Phonics program and reading recovery leveled books. The Count Me In Too Program enhances early numeracy. St Mary’s School offers students in Years 5 and 6 a middle school program.

Teaching and Learning

The formalised curriculum is divided into Key Learning Areas: Religious Education is based on the CEO document Treasures New and Old and we implement the NSW Board of Studies Syllabuses for each of the other Key Learning Areas of English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Human Society and Its Environment, Personal Development/Health/ Physical Education and Creative and Practical Arts. We will be implementing the new Australian Curriculum in 2011.

Each learning area is fitted with an Interactive Whiteboard.  Ipods, podcasting and the internet are all essential resources of learning and teaching in St Mary’s primary classrooms. Students have access to computers in all classrooms as well as the computer lab. Student to computer ratio is 2:1.
