A Message from our Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

Over the last week you may have heard of a few new words coming home from St Mary’s. Words like compassionate, respectful, courageous, resilient and committed. You may have also heard of a 'St Mary’s call out'.  All of these are associated with our new Vision and Mission statements.

A team of teachers and parents from the board, came together to review our previous statements and make appropriate changes that represent the schools current climate.  Phil Billington, a Catholic leader across 5 dioceses and 4 states since 1972, lead the group in a series of activities to unpack where St Mary’s is now and where St Mary’s strives to be in the future.

It is with great excitement that I unveil St Mary’s Vision and Mission statements for 2021 and beyond.

During last week’s Making Jesus Real (MJR) session I launched our Mission and Vision statements with the students. With the entire school in attendance, I introduced the statements and explored what they mean for us. During the next 5 weeks our MJR sessions will take one statement and unpack it further as the students break into their smaller MJR groups.

Each morning assembly, members of the school community are invited to share a 'St Mary’s call out' of examples of students living out our mission statement.  Examples of compassion, respect, courage, resilience and commitment.  Incredibly, I can already see a shift in the atmosphere of the school and the use of consistent language has made it very clear when we are behaving in the St Mary’s way.
