Sorry Day
During MJR this week we acknowledged Sorry Day and then the students made some official national sorry day flowers.
The five-petal Native Cotton, Desert Rose, or Native Hibiscus as we know it, was chosen to symbolise the scattering of the Stolen Generations and their resilience to the eugenic policies of Australia. This was initially proposed by members of the Kimberley Stolen Generation Aboriginal Corporation, and later endorsed by the National Sorry Day Committee.
This KSGAC Stolen Generation flower was adopted because it is found widely across Australia and it is a survivor. Its colour denotes compassion and spiritual healing.

Mortimer Shield Year 5/6
Our Year 5/6 boys and girls competed at the Mortimer Shield League and League Tag Gala Day last Thursday.
It was a very cold day in Young and our players remained focused and committed even when it was so hard to keep warm between games.
Our boys team came up against some hard competition but managed to have two wins. Our girls tag team were on fire from the first game and won all their games and also the final. This team of very capable young ladies have now qualified to play at the next level of the competition in Wagga on the 22nd of June.
Our special thanks go to Mick Loudon and Jodie McDonell who were willing to take time out of their busy days to coach the students at school and then accompany them to Young on game day. We really appreciate their willingness to share imporant skills and knowledge with our students and it is fair to say that you did a great job!
Here are some wonderful images taken on the day.

Feast Day Activities
On a cold and windy afternoon on the school oval, we bravely utilised our missions and values, and played our tabloid sports games.
The games were fun and the students all got involved and had a brilliant afternoon team building with their MJR groups.

Preschool Visit for National Reconiliation Week
On Friday the Bland Preschool 3 year old class visited our Year 3/4 Trust class. The students shared Dreantime stories, watched Tiddalick the Big Green Frog, had fun with craft activities together and then enjoyed recess together.
It was a fabulous visit and a great morning was had by all.
Thank you to Ash Nicholson and Mrs Nielsen for organising and co-ordinating the fun filled morning.
