St Mary's Prays
The third candle known as the candle of joy otherwise known as the Shepherd Candle, reflects the joy that comes through Jesus’ arrival, and through the salvation he has gifted us.
Although Christians have presented several reasons for the pinkish nature of the candle, from a tradition where priests would wear pink vestments to parents eagerly awaiting the joy of a child’s arrival by painting the room pink, the rosy candle has its roots in something known as Gaudete Sunday.
Philippians 4:4-5
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.
Dear Savior,
You are the giver of joy and new life. We celebrate You and honour You today. Thank You for your constant care for us. Thank You that we are able to access the fruit of the Spirit's joy because You came down to us. Thank You that at this time of year, we are able to rejoice and be grateful for Your precious presence with us. We praise You for coming to earth in humility as a newborn child. God, we cannot begin to comprehend all that You have done for us.
Amen
