Honour is doing what is morally right, even when it’s hard, doesn’t suit you or no one is watching. It means we stick to our word, keep promises/commitments, and show respect without falling into the temptation to gossip about someone to our friends.
Jesus showed us honour in Luke 10:30-37 by the telling the Parable of the Good Samaritan. The Samaritans who were thought of as being of low class were despised. Despite being unappreciated, the helpful Good Samaritan cared for the wounds of the man he found in the street. Even though a priest and Levite walked by and ignored this person in distress, the Samaritan kept his promise to a stranger with action. He even paid for a room at the inn and made a promise to make good for any extra expenses for someone who probably hated him. This example displays the virtue of honour significantly as the Good Samaritan did the morally right thing.
As Christian's we honour God as a daily commitment. Honouring God begins first and foremost in our hearts. It can be a difficult, yet it is a conscious decision to put Him first and foremost in our lives. This is the ultimate declaration of love we can offer towards God.
