Dear Parents and Carers,
It is with great delight that I announce the Religious Education Coordinator role has been filled for 2022 and beyond. I would like to congratulate Mrs Jacqui Cuthbertson on being the successful candidate for the position. Jacqui brings great enthusiasm and commitment to the role and I look forward to having her on the leadership team. I would also like to thank Mrs Louise Daniher for fulfilling the role while the position was advertised. Lou has done a magnificent job and she is leaving Religious Education in a wonderful position for Jacqui to lead next year.
I would also like to welcome Mrs Sinead Turner to St Mary's. We are very pleased to have Sinead on the Learning Support team and know her passion and energy will be an asset. Sinead will be working with us until the end of the year.
As we enter week 4 we are beginning to work on end of year events and procedures and more information will be communicated soon about this.
Thank you for your continued support with the COVID-19 restrictions we are working under at the moment. Please remember if you need to enter the school grounds you need to wear a mask (even outside) and check in at the front office. I have no indication of restriction levels changing for November at this point in time.
God Bless
Phil Nielsen

School Intensive Swimming Program
Planning is underway for St Mary’s Intensive Swimming Program. All students are encouraged to participate in this program. Swimming is very much a part of the Australian lifestyle and a high level of swimming ability and knowledge and skill in water safety is not only highly desirable but could be life saving.
The program will run over five days, from Thursday the 18th of November to Wednesday the 24th of November. The program will meet the needs of the K – 6 PDHPE Syllabus and is under the control of L&R Group from the Holland Park Swim Centre and their qualified instructors. Class teachers will attend to supervise. The primary aim is to develop each child’s swimming ability. The program will offer the following skill levels:
WATER LEARNER | Water Learner encourages children to become independent in the water. We introduce the fundamentals of water safety and continue to develop water confidence. The core focus is to get the child to stay afloat and start achieving short distances of propulsion. |
WATER BASIC | This level introduces swimming skills. At this level, children will learn kicking, breathing, streamline, body position and arm rotation, the core swimming skills needed to ensure your child has the correct techniques for their on-going development. |
WATER SKILLS | Children are now displaying correct freestyle techniques. We start to advance the distances of swimming to 15 metres. Backstroke is also introduced along with more advanced skills and drills to refine the child’s stroke and to continue water confidence. |
SQUAD |
Squad training has various levels. Re-enforcing the core swimming skills over a longer distances of 25m. The 50m squads focuses on fine tuning all four strokes along with further development of dives, introduction of turns, starts and finishes. There is also a concentration on developing fitness and fun in all squads. |
The students will be placed in groups depending on their level of ability as advised by parents, and in consultation with Angus. Students will be assessed on the first day to make sure they are in the correct group.
Students not attending the program will be supervised at school and set appropriate literacy learning activities.
THIS YEAR THE SWIMMING LESSONS WILL BE AT NO COST TO ALL STUDENTS.
St Mary's would like thank the hardworking P&F and our school community, who have supported fundraisers over the past year, this has allowed the P&F to donate the full amount of the swimming lessons to our families.
Please complete the following form to indicate the swimming level of your child/ren:
Intensive Swim Lessons - Permission Note
The NSW Government has announced a ban on banks delivering programs in their schools because of a report from the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).
Unfortunately due to this ruling the Commonwealth Bank Dollarmites school banking program will be closed at St Mary's. This will take effect from the end of Term 4.
If your child intends to use the free bus travel scheme, either in town for Years K to 2 or from a rural location for Years K to 6, please plan ahead and apply before the end of Term 4 via the School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS). In rural areas it is recommended parents also contact their local bus operator to discuss their travel needs.
If you have received an expiry notice from Transport for NSW you should update the details before the end of Term 4 to ensure that St Mary's can endorse the application and entitlements remain valid.
Please contact the school if you have any questions.
Socktober 2021
