Dear Parents and Carers,
Term 4 has started with a bang, as it usually does. Our school photos were completed under beautiful conditions and I’m sure the photo’s will be of the highest quality as they normally are. This week our year 3 to 6 students will participate in first local West Wyalong Basketball Gala Day and our first Kinder Orientation and parent session will be held on Friday. We are looking forward to seeing our 2024 Kindergarten students and showing them what St Mary’s is about.
Mrs Cuthberston will continue to be on leave for the first half of the term. Mr Collins has been fulfilling the REC position and he will continue to do this. I will fulfill the Classroom Support Teacher role of the school and we have implemented a new timetable that is ensuring all available support time is utilised for the best outcome for our students.
During the recent Community Council meeting a request was made to publicise the current staffing contacts. This list can be found here. The school currently has a stable staff list and teaching and learning is occurring in it’s full capacity. During this meeting it was identified that there was talk around town about the school. At St Mary’s we have always had an ‘open door’ policy and parents are encouraged to come forth and seek clarification on any concerns that may be present. Our teachers and leadership team are always here to help.
Kind Regards,
Phil Nielsen
Prayerfulness
In partnership with families, we are dedicated to educating children who are:
Prayerful - Prayerfulness is raising your heart and mind to God. It means setting aside time for Jesus, speaking to him and then listening in peaceful silence. We love to spend time with friends. How much more should we love to spend time with Our Lord who made us and has given us all that is good?
A Prayer for the virtue of Prayerfulness
Dear Jesus,
I desire to have You as my best friend.
Give me a desire to spend time with You each day, as I do with my friends.
Help me always to put You first in my life, even when I am busy.
Amen.

School Intensive Swimming Program 2023
Planning is underway for St Mary’s Intensive Swimming Program. All students are encouraged to participate in this program. Swimming is very much a part of the Australian lifestyle and a high level of swimming ability and knowledge and skill in water safety is not only highly desirable but could be life saving.
The program will run over five days, from Monday 20th of November to Friday 24th of November. The program will meet the needs of the K – 6 PDHPE Syllabus and is under the control of L&R Group from the Holland Park Swim Centre and their qualified instructors. Class teachers will attend to supervise. The primary aim is to develop each child’s swimming ability. The program will offer the following skill levels:
WATER LEARNER | Water Learner encourages children to become independent in the water. We introduce the fundamentals of water safety and continue to develop water confidence. The core focus is to get the child to stay afloat and start achieving short distances of propulsion. |
WATER BASIC | This level introduces swimming skills. At this level, children will learn kicking, breathing, streamline, body position and arm rotation, the core swimming skills needed to ensure your child has the correct techniques for their on-going development. |
WATER SKILLS | Children are now displaying correct freestyle techniques. We start to advance the distances of swimming to 15 metres. Backstroke is also introduced along with more advanced skills and drills to refine the child’s stroke and to continue water confidence. |
SQUAD |
Squad training has various levels. Re-enforcing the core swimming skills over a longer distances of 25m. The 50m squads focuses on fine tuning all four strokes along with further development of dives, introduction of turns, starts and finishes. There is also a concentration on developing fitness and fun in all squads. |
The students will be placed in groups depending on their level of ability as advised by parents. Students will be assessed on the first day to make sure they are in the correct group.
Students not attending the program will be supervised at school and set appropriate literacy learning activities.
Once costs have been finalised an electronic form to pay for the lessons and to advise swimming level will be sent to parents.
