A Message from our Assistant Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
What a start to Term 4 we’ve had. We are very excited for what lies ahead. Our teachers are busily preparing for the end of year play ‘Blue Ribbon Belle’ which I’m sure will be its usual quality production. Last week our Year 3 to Year 6 students combined with students from Wyalong Public for our first basketball gala day. Many thanks to Mr Arms, Mrs Turner and Mrs Iverach for accompanying them. It was great to see the students from St Mary’s and Wyalong playing so well together. This week will start with a pupil free day followed by a parent session demonstrating the High Impact Teaching Practices used by staff at St Mary’s. If you were unable to attend and would like more information about CATALYST and our approach please contact the front office. These practises have already yielded excellent results across the school as our students have been completing several PAT (progressive achievement test) tests. Early results have shown a dramatic improvement and are a testament to the hard work of our students and teachers.
MODUPLAY will begin constructing our new playground this week which will be an amazing asset to our school. Construction was to begin last week but was postponed a week. Below is what our new equipment will look like. Thanks again to everyone who raised money in our Colour Run last year and to our community council for its generous donation toward our project.
Have a great week everyone and remember my door is always open!!
Regards
Damian Collins

Responsibility
In partnership with families, we are dedicated to educating children who are:
Responsible - Responsibility is when you do the right thing, even when it’s not fun, cool, or noticed by anyone. Responsibility and leadership often go hand in hand, and leaders must be not only be organised but be prepared to take the blame if something goes wrong. It’s like being someone that God can count on!
A Prayer for the virtue of Responsibility
Dear Lord
Please give me,
A sense of responsibility.
Give me…
A sense of responsibility to myself,
So that I may never waste the gifts
Which you have given to me;
A sense of responsibility to my parents,
So that I may do something to try to
Repay them for all the love and the care
They have given to me;
A sense of responsibility to my teachers,
So that all their patient teaching of me
May not go for nothing;
A sense of responsibility to my friends,
So that I may never disappoint them.
A sense of responsibility to the world,
So that I may put into life
More than I take out;
A sense of responsibility to You,
So that I may always remember that
You loved me and gave yourself for me.
Help me remember what I have received,
And to use what I have and so to make
What I ought to out of this life of mine,
Which cost so much.
I ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Welcome Father Renoit Oliver
As you are aware, Father Dom will be on annual leave during October. The St Mary’s Parish will be serviced during this time by Fr Renoit. Fr Renoit visited St Mary’s on Tuesday and led the school in prayer.

School Intensive Swimming Program 2023
Planning is underway for St Mary’s Intensive Swimming Program. All students are encouraged to participate in this program. Swimming is very much a part of the Australian lifestyle and a high level of swimming ability and knowledge and skill in water safety is not only highly desirable but could be life saving.
The program will run over five days, from Monday 20th of November to Friday 24th of November. The program will meet the needs of the K – 6 PDHPE Syllabus and is under the control of L&R Group from the Holland Park Swim Centre and their qualified instructors. Class teachers will attend to supervise. The primary aim is to develop each child’s swimming ability. The program will offer the following skill levels:
WATER LEARNER | Water Learner encourages children to become independent in the water. We introduce the fundamentals of water safety and continue to develop water confidence. The core focus is to get the child to stay afloat and start achieving short distances of propulsion. |
WATER BASIC | This level introduces swimming skills. At this level, children will learn kicking, breathing, streamline, body position and arm rotation, the core swimming skills needed to ensure your child has the correct techniques for their on-going development. |
WATER SKILLS | Children are now displaying correct freestyle techniques. We start to advance the distances of swimming to 15 metres. Backstroke is also introduced along with more advanced skills and drills to refine the child’s stroke and to continue water confidence. |
SQUAD |
Squad training has various levels. Re-enforcing the core swimming skills over a longer distances of 25m. The 50m squads focuses on fine tuning all four strokes along with further development of dives, introduction of turns, starts and finishes. There is also a concentration on developing fitness and fun in all squads. |
The students will be placed in groups depending on their level of ability as advised by parents. Students will be assessed on the first day to make sure they are in the correct group.
Students not attending the program will be supervised at school and set appropriate literacy learning activities.
St Mary's would like thank the hardworking Community Council for their efforts and our school community, who have supported fundraisers over the past year. This has allowed the Community Council to donate half the amount of the swimming lesson costs to our families.
Once costs have been finalised an event will be sent out on Compass to pay for the lessons and to advise swimming level.

We have had a few reported cases of head lice in the school. Could all parents please check their children’s hair and treat accordingly. It is really important to check your child's hair regularly as lice spread quickly. Children with shoulder length hair should always tie their hair back. |
Please remember to send your child to school with a water bottle especially now the weather is warming up.
If your child intends to use the free bus travel scheme, either in town for Years K to 2 or from a rural location for Years K to 6, please plan ahead and apply before the end of Term 4 via the School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS). In rural areas it is recommended parents also contact their local bus operator to discuss their travel needs.
If you have received an expiry notice from Transport for NSW you should update the details before the end of Term 4 to ensure that St Mary's can endorse the application and entitlements remain valid.
