A Message from our Assistant Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Week 10.
Well done to all those involved in Speech Night on Thursday, as we celebrated and acknowledged the hard work and commitment of a number of our students. Congratulations to the award winners!
We were dazzled by the performances of all students in their presentation of ‘Blue Ribbon Belle’. Thank you to the staff for the time and effort that they put into the play. In particular thank you and well done to Nickey Harland. The expertise, energy and passion that she puts into the annual production is extremely valued by our school community.
Thank you to our small but enthusiastic choir who sang beautifully at the Carols by Candlelight last night. Mrs Harland was very proud of you all.
Semester Two Reports will be available via Compass at 3:30pm today. Please contact your child’s teacher if you wish to discuss your child’s report. I thank the staff for their professional approach in writing these important documents. They have succinctly described each student in their class; their achievements and areas for future growth.
This Friday the last day of school, the Community Council will hold a disco to celebrate the year. The Community Council will also be selling meal deals, where students will be able to order a Hot Dog and Snap Stick for only $5. If you would like to take advantage of this meal deal, you will need to place an order by Wednesday. For more details follow the Community Council Facebook page.
On Friday, as well as farewelling our Year 6 students, we will also say goodbye and farewell to Year 2 student Poppi Barber. She will join her older brother Ashton at the public school. We wish Poppi we at her new school. Also, the Cuthbertson family will be leaving St Mary's and West Wyalong. They go with our thanks for their contributions to our community and with our prayers and best wishes for a happy future.
We are still finalising classes and teachers for 2024. The current staff have been very flexible and generous in increasing their hours to ensure we have quality teachers in every classroom. Class teachers will be announced on Compass by the end of this week. Thank you for your understanding.
As the year draws to a close, please note the following reminders.
· Lost property – we have a number of unnamed food containers. Please come along and have a look if you are missing anything.
· Candy Canes – the children are excitedly handing out Christmas cards and candy canes. It is a school directive that the candy canes are not eaten at school. If you could support us and remind your children of this, that would be appreciated.
· School Fees – if you have school fees in arrears it would be appreciated if you could pay them before the end of the school year. If you are experiencing financial hardship, please make an appointment to discuss options.
Please remember my door is always open.

Advent
The second Sunday of Advent occurred yesterday, December 10th. After a chaotic year, there is comfort to be found when we pause to read, pray, and reflect over the course of the Advent season...a time when we eagerly anticipate the celebration of Christ’s birth.
The second Sunday of Advent gives us the opportunity to prepare our hearts in faithful waiting, celebrate the birth of Jesus, and ready ourselves for his second coming.
It's a beautiful chance to reflect on the ways prophecy has been fulfilled and to ponder what the future (promised to us through prophecies) will bring.
Psalm 46:10-11 says:
...Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.”
This week, we pause to remember who God is and what He has done for us. When our lives are hurried, we only have the chance to focus on our to-do lists. Making space in our schedules for prayer and meditation helps us to better see God at work in our lives and in our world.
As we prepare our hearts for the celebration of Jesus’ arrival as a gift to all humanity, let’s stir up in our hearts and homes a sense of anticipation. May God’s spirit transform the days leading up to Christmas into a time of holy anticipation; preparing our hearts, as we faithfully await the chance to celebrate the arrival of our king.
A Prayer for the the second Sunday of Advent
Father,
Prepare our hearts to celebrate your birth joyfully!
We thank you for faithfully doing what you promised long ago when you sent your Son to earth so that we might have the chance to become part of your family.
Let the promise of your second coming inspire us to live with hope and purpose.
As we wait for your plan to unfold, give us the patience we need.
Remind us of the peace we can access when we take time to still ourselves before you and remember that you are God.
Help us to find rest in the midst of what feels like chaos in our world.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
