Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back for Term 3. It is going to be another busy term at St Mary’s with plenty of exciting events. The first of these events being tomorrow. Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 students will be heading to the Wagga Civic Theatre and our leadership class will travel to Cootamundra for the Archdiocese NAIDOC week Mass. A special thanks to the staff for their work during the holidays to prepare the students for a settled start to Term 3. I spent time in all classes this morning and was very happy to see how settled each class was for the start of the term.
At the end of last term St Mary’s War Memorial enjoyed a visit from the new Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn director David de Carvalho. He was very interested in looking at our school wide NAPLAN and PAT (progressive achievement test) results but was more in interested in how he and the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn can help support St Mary’s. He was very personable and easy to talk to. We look forward to his support of our school and wish him well for his time as director.
Yesterday, the staff from St Mary’s travelled to Grenfell for their annual Spirituality Day. The staff were joined by teachers and leadership members of St Francis Lake Cargelligo and St Joseph’s Grenfell. The theme for the day was ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ and was led by Principal Catholic Identity Officer Lee Herden. The aim of the day was to reflect on the Spirit of Hope in a Christian Community. The final aspect of the day was to discuss as a school how we can create a culture of hope in our students and community.
Next Tuesday at 4pm in the school hall, St Mary’s is hosting an Emotional Regulation & Anxiety forum. The event will be led by local expert in this area Esther Petrie and our very own school counsellor Natalie Cowled. They will provide tips for you and your children at morning drop offs, transitions, changes in routines and will discuss overall emotional regulation and support. This opportunity is not to be missed!!!
Remember my door is always open.
Principal
Damian Collins

This week at St Mary’s our focus value will be Hope. This was the theme of our Spirituality Day at Grenfell. Hope is having confidence and expecting that if we place our trust in the Lord we will enjoy a peaceful, positive life. Hope is recognising that we have heaven to look forward to and that it is the destination where we will experience complete happiness. As a Catholic, hope also means having confidence and trust in God. Hope is when we look forward to a positive outcome, when we expect with confidence and when we believe and trust.
A Prayer for Hope
