A Mothers Day Prayer
OUR FATHER in HEAVEN
Whose love is divine,
Thanks for the love
of a Mother like mine -
And in Thy great mercy
look down from Above
And grant this dear Mother
the GIFT of YOUR LOVE -
And all through the year,
whatever betide her,
Assure her each day
that You are beside her -
And, Father in Heaven,
show me the way
To lighten her tasks
and brighten her day,
And bless her dear heart
with the insight to see
That her love means more
than the world to me!
The parents and children who supported the Mothers Day stall today at school and Mrs Jodie McDonell for being the shop keeper. The children enjoyed choosing presents for their mothers.

Dear Parents/Carers,
Change and loss are issues that affect all of us at some stage in our lives. At St. Mary’s War Memorial School we recognise that when changes occur in families through death, separation, divorce or related circumstances, young people may benefit from learning how to manage these changes effectively. We are therefore offering a very successful education program called Seasons for Growth This program is facilitated in small groups and is based on research that highlights the importance of social support and the need to practise new skills to cope effectively with change and loss. The program focuses on issues such as self esteem, managing feelings, problem solving, decision making, effective communication and support networks.
Seasons for Growth runs for eight weeks and each weekly session is 40-45 minutes. The program concludes with a ‘Celebration’ session. Later in the year each group will have the opportunity to meet for two further sessions to build on their earlier learning.
Seasons for Growth will commence on Monday 28 May 2018 at 4 pm and will be held in the Parish Centre. It will be facilitated by Mrs Melanie Meincke, who has received special training in the use of this program. It will continue on 4 June, 18 June and 25 June. If you think your son or daughter would benefit from Seasons for Growth we would encourage you to talk to him/her first about this. Should he/she decide to participate please print the newsletter and fill in the tear off section below and return to the school by Friday 18 May 2018 or click on this link to send an email, please include the same information in email.
If you would like more information to gain a better insight into the Seasons for Growth program, I would strongly encourage you to meet with Mrs Meincke at an arranged time.
St. Mary’s War Memorial School is pleased to be able to offer this important program and we are confident that it will be a valuable learning experience for those who request to be involved.
Signed

Due to the wet conditions yesterday morning we have had to postpone our athletics carnival.

NEW DATE for our athletics carnival will be Wednesday 23 May.
As the carnival will be shorter all students are expected to report to school in the morning and walk with their classes to the oval to start the carnival at approximately 9.30am.
Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2 (7 year olds) will walk to the ground at the same time.
A canteen will operate at McAlister Oval. It will be catering for pre-ordered lunches only but will sell snacks and baked treats during the day. All classes can buy the treats and order lunch. You can also send your child with their recess/lunch.
Your child’s lunch order should be sent to the school office in a brown lunch bag with the money before 18 May. Please refer to the special menu in the canteen communication section of this newsletter.
We are hoping we can count on the same parent volunteers for the field/track events. If you cannot help on that day please let the

Understanding an eating disorders can be difficult for families. There are many myths around what causes an eating disorder, but it is actually diagnosed as a mental illness. Although the focus is on food, weight and shape, there is often an underlying issue being masked by the eating disorder. It is the biggest killer of any psychiatric illness for young people. It affects both males and females of any age or background.
An eating disorder is a serious and potentially life-threatening mental health illness. It can have significant physical and emotional effects. The beginning of adolescence and late teens are peak periods for kids to experience their first symptoms. Young people with eating disorders can have reductions in cognitive function, emotional changes and may even stop participating in their normal daily activities.
In this edition of SchoolTV, parents will learn what warning signs to look for and what can be done in the prevention of an eating disorder. We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this month’s edition and we always welcome your feedback.
If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school for advice and referral to the school counsellor if necessary.
