I would like to thank our parent community, our students and our staff for a wonderful start to the year and welcome everybody back for term 2. This term is historically a very busy term and 2019 is no exception. Some events to look forward to are; Possum Magic performance, the Western Region Cross Country, Paul Kelly Cup, Mother’s Day stall, NAPLAN, Hoops & Handstands (Kinder), school book fair, St Mary’s Feast Day Mass, Mortimer Shield, Deadly Australian’s reptile display, our athletics carnival and parent/teacher interviews.
My morning catchcry with the students is "our number one focus for school is to learn" and the experiences listed above add to the rich and diverse learning we aim to provide our students.
I would like to reinforce the importance of contacting the school if you have any concerns at all. For classroom queries, it is always best to make contact with your child’s teacher through the office. For general school issues my door is always open and I welcome constructive feedback to ensure we are providing the best possible service for our students.
I am looking forward to the exciting term that lies ahead.

Girls Winter Skirts
More information will be available in the next few weeks.
Summer uniform, or winter uniform without ties can be worn from the start of Term 2. Ties are compulsory from June 1.
Our school uniform is always to be worn with pride. It is our brand and reflects the quality of our school.
Parents are asked to consider the following:
- Scarves and beanies are only to be worn when a student is dressed in full winter uniform and not to be worn inside. The items need to be navy blue.
- Tights worn with skorts are not a part of the summer or winter uniform.
- The lightweight jackets do not replace the fleece jumper. They can be worn in addition to the jumper when playing outside.
- Jumpers must be in good condition and replaced if the zipper is broken.
- The top button on shirts needs to be done up when a tie is worn. The buttonhole may need to be enlarged or a lager size shirt may be required.
- Singlets and T-Shirts worn under shirts need to be tucked in or at a length where they are not visible below the shirt hem.
- Shoes should be polished regularly.
- Ripped and very well worn and faded pants, shirts and hats needs to be replaced.
- Socks should be navy for girls and grey for boys.
- Canberra Goulburn representative jumpers are not school uniform and therefore should not to be worn at school.
Thank you for your efforts in keeping our students looking neat and tidy.
ANZAC Day 2019
Hiroko's Visit
On Wednesday St Mary’s was treated to a day of Japanese culture from Hiroko Ka, a friend of Mrs Scott’s family. Hiroko has her own business in Japan whereby she tutors students in English and she was very keen to come and share her culture with students in an Australian school.
Hiroko dressed in a casual kimono and spoke to all the students in the school about her home city Nagoya, what Japanese people eat and wear, and the geography of Japan. Our students found it fascinating that all the students in Japan only walk to school. There are no school buses or parents taking students to school unlike St Mary’s.
The students from K- 6 had opportunities to make origami hats, write Japanese characters, sing Japanese songs and listen to a Japanese folktale. A special thank you to Hiroko, and her husband Steve for all their preparation and efforts. Hiroko asked me to express her sincere gratitude to the St Mary’s community for hosting her and commented on how respectful and well - mannered all the students were. She wishes her nephew could come to school at St Mary’s!
