Our Mini Vinnies team are doing some wonderful work for those in need.
This week the Mini Vinnies team visited our local St Vincent De Paul store to drop off all the tins of soup our students donated on Soup-er Hero Day last term. There were also some blankets which were donated by our families at St Mary's.
The students had a tour of the store starting out the back and Mrs Kerry Scott explained how they sort through the goods, distribute them to those in need or put them in the store to sell.
The volunteers at St Vincent De Paul West Wyalong were very grateful for St Mary's generosity towards the Winter Appeal.
They mentioned that within our local region there are many people in need of warm blankets, beanies and gloves as they cannot afford electricity or gas heating. Any of these items will be greatly appreciated and can be brought into school or left at the local St Vinnies store.
This year the UNSW ICAS assessments are online and will be held in September on the dates shown in the table below.

Our school currently has a student enrolled who has a compromised immune system and is more vulnerable to disease than other students. We also have students enrolled in the school who, for medical reasons, cannot be immunised. Therefore, it is important that you do not send your children to school if they are unwell.
Your child should also stay at home if they have any infectious disease, coughs, runny noses, a temperature, diarrhoea or other infections. For more information about how long an illness is contagious, contact your GP or visit the NSW Health website at health.nsw.gov.au.

Aboriginal Land Council Visit Year 3/4
By Ava McLintock and Charlie Murdoch
On Monday Year 3 and 4 went to visit the Aboriginal Land Council to learn about Aboriginal Culture for NAIDOC Week.
While we were there we learnt about Aboriginal paintings, totems, the quandong tree and how they made clothing to keep warm. We really enjoyed our visit, especially the paintings and trying the quandongs.
Some children were given a chance to play the didgeridoo and all of us got a chance to hold Aboriginal tools and artefacts. At the end of our visit, Uncle Linton showed us how to make ochre paint and painted a dot on our foreheads. The girls were given a yellow dot and the boys were given a red dot.
When we got back to school we shared our presentations about famous Indigenous people. We learnt a lot on our visit and are very grateful to Uncle Bernie and Uncle Linton.
