Dear Parents and Carers

It’s hard to believe that we only have one more week until the close of Term 2! The rain has been very welcome and for this we give thanks. We pray that this favourable weather continues so our farmers can look forward to a bountiful harvest this year.

Mr Nielsen has been in Gundagai over the last two days at the Western Regions Principals conference. It is wonderful that the principals can actually meet again in person with the easing of COVID restrictions.

Over the term we have had several reminders about the winter school uniform and what students are required to wear. Can I ask that parents please refer to this and ensure that their child/ren are dressed each day in their correct winter school uniform. We appreciate that there are times when your child may be out of school uniform for various reasons. If this is the case, please make contact with the school via phone, email or a note to your child’s teacher explaining why they are out of school uniform. It is expected that all school uniform items are kept in good order and students should present as clean and tidy. Please ensure all items of clothing are labelled clearly as we have lots of unnamed school uniforms piling up in the school office with no owners.

Miss Jackson will be away on leave next week preparing for her wedding day next Saturday 4^th July to Mick McGee. We wish them both love and happiness for their wedding day and beyond as they begin their journey as husband and wife. When we come back next Term Miss Jackson will be Mrs McGee which might take a bit of adjusting!

We are looking forward to our school cross country next week and finally hosting a sporting event. Thank you Mrs Cuthbertson for all your organisation of this event. There are more details outlined in the newsletter.

The Sunday Readings for this week reiterate God’s words ‘Be not afraid’. This statement appears 365 times in the bible – one for every day of the year. This is a daily reminder to us (particularly in this current climate of COVID), to live everyday fearless as God is always by our side. At the start of the COVID lockdown period, Catholic music artists got together from their homes all around the world, to sing the beautiful hymn ‘Be not afraid’. Australia’s very own Fr Rob Galea featured in this as well. There is a link below to this moving hymn which has been recreated to reflect our current times but speaks of reassurance. Musically it’s very calming and beautiful to listen to.

Due to current health precautions students will be presented with their awards during an online assembly at 9.05am in individual classrooms.

Parents who wish to watch the assembly are able to login to Microsoft Teams on their own device using their child's login.

We would like to thank the Bland Shire Libray for a donation of a Lego book to our school library. During our COVID-19 home learning period a number of our students participated in the Bland Shire Library Lego Legends Online Challenge. This book is a thank you for St Mary's participating.

We would like to thank Annabelle Brown for the lovely present to our teachers for all their hard work during the home learning period. We received a white cyclamen in a pot that is now making the school office look lovely.

And last but by no means least. We wish Miss Jackson and her fiance Mick McGee the best of luck for their wedding day on Saturday the 4th of July.

We are welcoming new enrolments for the 2021 school year. We appreciate that this is a significant decision for parents and know that new families will need time to consider all available options.

Mrs Emma McRae our counsellor will be visiting our school next week on Wednesday the 1st of July.

Emma will be holding her counselling sessions face to face again while maintaining the appropriate social distancing protocols.

School Banking is returning in Term 3.

Books should be brought to the school office each Monday morning.

The first Monday of Term 3 is a pupil free day, so we will start again on Monday 27th of July.

School Banking encourages kids to save a little money each week (any amount) into their Youthsaver account, helping them learn about the value of money and develop a good saving habit. Please open an Youthsaver account for your child at the Commonwealth Bank and get a yellow deposit book that is then sent to the office.

We would like to say a special thank you to Clare Parker for her hard work and enthusiasm as the canteen manager for the last two years.

CANTEEN SPECIAL ORDER DAY

LAST DAY OF TERM 2

On Friday 3 July the canteen will sell Special Order lunches.

The special lunch will be a hot dog for $3 with optional garlic bread at 50 cents for 2 pieces.

Multiple hot dogs can be ordered just indicate on the order bag.

Please complete a brown lunch bag with your child's name, class, order and money and return to the school office - we will still accept orders before Tuesday.

The normal menu will not be available for lunch orders. If you do not order the special lunch please make sure you send lunch with your child/ren. Remember the canteen is not open for counter sales.

Drinks and snacks can still be ordered but MUST be ordered on the lunch order bag for distribution at lunch time.

We are now advertising for canteen volunteers for Term 3. We hope to be open for recess and lunch in Term 3.

Bland Shire Library Lego Legends Online Challenge

The students who were at school during the COVID-19 home learning participated in the library's LEGO challenge "A Boat that Floats".

There are some lovely pictures of the boats and students hard at work creating a LEGO boat.

Miss Jackson is getting married

Our year 5/6 students organised a lovely farwell for Miss Jackson.

An exciting visit today

Sam and Eddie Tulloch organised a visit to school to show off their fox terrier puppies today. They were so very cute.

Year 1/2 Joy Maths Lesson

Year 1/2 joy had a fun Maths lesson this week where they were given a budget of $ 500 , a toy catalogue and a calculator. The results were lots of spending, addition and wishful thinking!
