Dear parents and carers,

In the coming weeks we will be inviting students, teachers and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.

We would like to invite you to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at St Mary’s.

The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. They will be accessed by a URL, which will be communicated next week when the surveys are made active.

Honesty is speaking the truth and acting in a way that doesn't aim to trick or deceive others. It includes owning up to our mistakes, taking responsibility for our words and actions, and telling the truth, even when it's easier to lie.

When you are honest, you speak the truth. You truly can present yourself in a genuine and sincere way, without pretence, and taking responsibility for your feelings and actions. You are a person of integrity, you are who you say you are, and you act consistently across all areas of your life. It is important to note that honesty is often if not always accompanied by integrity.

This virtue is extremely imperative for children and grownups alike to practice and hold in high regard. Great ways in fostering this virtue of honesty include doing the following:

1. Reward the Truth

It will build self-confidence and reinforce positive behaviour.

2. Speak the Truth

If they don’t have a kind word to say, teach them how to control their words and not say anything.

3. Say the Hard Truth

Upholding morals is extremely important.

4. Model the Truth

Put thought and initiative into telling and seeking the truth all the time.

5. Correct Mistakes

Talk to them about what they could have done differently.

6. Follow Through on Promises

If you want to be trusted, then keep your promises.

And as the saying goes, honesty is the best policy.

MOTHER'S DAY STALL at SCHOOL

The Community Council will be holding a Mother's Day Stall on Thursday the 11th of May for students to purchase a small gift for their mum.

Send your children to school with money to purchase a gift, the price range will be from $2- $10.

MacKillop Rugby League

On Friday the 5th of May Jagger Lange, Billy Pettit and Eddie Tulloch took a trip to Canberra to trial for the MacKillop Rugby League team. Billy was competing in the 11's, while Jagger and Eddie were in the opens trial.

As you can see by the photos it was freezing in Canberra and the boys took a while to warm up. Once up and running the boys had an awesome day, competing against some excellent players from other schools.

Eddie was chosen for the possible and probables, he played some wonderful football and was selected for the MacKillop team. Congratulations Eddie!

Mrs Emma McRae our counsellor will be visiting our school every Monday this term.

For a new referral please complete the School Referral Form.

For students already seeing Emma she schedules sessions as necessary. If you would like Emma to see your child on a particular day please contact the office.

Please remember it is a requirement of the Catholic Education Office and Education Department that student absences from school form part of a child's official school record.

Parents are asked to send an absence note via the Compass within five days of an absence. The absence followups are done weekly on a Monday so it is helpful if absence notes for each week are sent to the office by Friday of that week.

All parents of local schools are welcome to attend.

Our Year 5/6 students will be travelling to Young by bus on Wednesday the 31st of May to compete at the Mortimer Shield Rugby League Legends Day.

A bus has been organised by the school and will cost $10 per student. The bus will leave St Mary's at 7.45am SHARP.

Please ensure your child is at school at this time with their school allocated uniform plus any personal items including boots, personal protective equipment (mouth guard / headgear). Please also ensure your child has a hat, sunscreen, water bottle and the food they will require for the day.

There will be a canteen operating.

We also advise a change of clothes.

Mr Arms and Mrs Turner will be with the students on the bus and at the games.

Parents are most welcome to attend to cheer on the teams. If you wish to travel in the bus with the students please call the school office.

Could parents of Year 5/6 students please logon to Compass to give consent and pay for your student.

Students in Year 3 to Year 6 will travel to the Wagga Civic Theatre on Friday the 19th of May to see a performance of The Twits at 10.00am.

Roald Dahl’s gruesome twosome The Twits arrive on stage to delight and disgust, in equal measure. Proudly brought to you by multi-award winning shake & stir theatre co.

Mr and Mrs Twit are the nastiest couple you could ever hope (not) to meet. Both are on a quest to be meaner than the other – but, is there someone out there who can out-twit the Twits? Full of trickery and wickedly-funny pranks, Dahl’s adored classic encourages us to treat others with love and care and proves that if you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams.

Packed with Dahlicious mischief, hilarious mayhem and big belly laughs, The Twits is unmissable theatre for all ages.

The bus will leave the front of the school at 7.30am sharp and return to St Mary's in time for the school bus.

Students should wear sport uniform and bring all food required for the day, a packed recess, fruit, lunch, water bottle and a hat.

This cost of the theatre entry will be $20 per child, consent and payment via Compass.

The cost of transport is covered by St Mary's School.

St Mary's has organised a visit from The Super Science Circus Show on the 25th of May at 1:50pm in the school hall.

The show is an incredibly inventive, interactive and educational show that uses the fun of circus, comedy and magic to inspire scientific inquiry into the natural, physical and material world.

Our students will join the Ring Mistress and her cast of characters to question the HOW and the WHY of circus.

The cost of the show is $6 per student so please logon to COMPASS to give consent and payment.

The Premier's Back to School NSW Vouchers program provides 3 x $50 vouchers, totalling $150 for each eligible student.

St Mary's can now accept these vouchers and they can be used to purchase the school skirt, school ties and school bags.

If you spend more than the voucher value you will have to pay the difference by EFT, if you spend less that the voucher value the leftover amount will be forfeited.

Please come to the school office if you wish to use your vouchers which expire on 30 June 2023.

What a day it was!

The picturesque setting of Regal Estate made for the perfect backdrop to host the event on Saturday 29th April.

Guests were treated to a feast provided by Mal and Sal from Lake Cowal Conservation Centre (LCCC). Music was provided by rising young local star, ‘Claudia Raine Music’ who opened our event and later opened for country music star Fanny Lumsden. Then, taking us from afternoon to evening, and from our chairs to the dance floor, was a former student of St Mary’s War Memorial School, Cathy Player with her acoustic duo 'Kiss This'. We were very lucky to have such a wonderful band to entertain us for the evening!

For something a little different, Darren Green "The Cartoon Cellar", who entertained us with his caricature offerings. Darren has also kindly donated a large, signed compilation of his caricatures. Tickets of a 100 Club to win this compilation are available for purchase from the front office for $20 each.

A special mention must be made of our amazing sponsors of 'A Regal Afternoon'. We had three major sponsors of Dean Stock & Land, Connellans Electrical and ASPIRE Early Learning Centre, plus many other locals who supported our event. We could not have hosted this event without your support.
